The Moody Blues
Days of Future Passed
USA 8-Track Cartridge with wrong song sequence

The Moody Blues wonderful 1967 album "Days Of Future Passed" has been released in many different formats over the years, including LP, CD, Cassette, SACD, Reel-to-Reel and so on. In the USA it was released on 8-Track cartridge several times.

8-Track cartridges have four programs, each lasting approximately ten minutes. For the manufacturers of these cartridges it was often a headache to reshuffle the song order of famous albums, to create four equal length programs. It was felt that if programs were not of equal length, sometimes the listener would have to endure some silence at the end of one of the shorter programs, which was undesirable and should be avoided.

And so we come to Days Of Future Passed and specifically Deram-London 8-Track number DER M 77812 on which the manufacturer rearranged the song order drastically, apparently oblivious to the fact that the song titles represent the passing of a single day, from morning til night.  Here are the four programs, as described on the label.

Program 1
The Day Begins
Evening: The Sun Set: Twilight Time (Pt. 1)

Program 2
Evening: The Sun Set: Twilight Time (Pt. 2)
The Afternoon: Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)

Program 3
Dawn: Dawn Is A Feeling
Lunch Break: Peak Hour
The Morning: Another Morning (Pt. 1)

Program 4
The Morning: Another Morning (Pt. 2)
The Night: Nights In White Satin

So we move from dawn, to evening, to afternoon, back to dawn, to lunch, then morning again and finally night.
I have copied this 8-Track to PC formats for auditioning and analysis. The sound quality was far from acceptable and so I decided to rebuild this version from superior sounding sources.
Here, for educational purposes only then, are the four programs, as found on the 8-Track, but rebuilt from superior sources.
